...because I don't want to forget...

...the memories we shared together.
...the fun we had together.
...the chubby legs and arms, the curly hair/straight hair, the tiny fingers and toes.
...the moments when my girls experienced things for the first time, their excitement as they learn, and seeing these moments through my childrens' eyes.

This is why I love to take pictures. This is why I scrapbook. I don't want to forget any of these precious moments! Life goes by too fast.

Have you heard of Shimelle Laine? She has a class coming up on July 5th called, "Love Your Pictures, Love Your Pages" and has graciously allowed me to give a spot in her amazing class to one of my blog readers! Just leave a comment here for your chance to win!  How do pictures and scrapbooking go hand-in-hand for you?

I love my plain photo albums...but there are always those "special" pictures that seem to deserve so much more than slipping into a photo sleeve and treating like any other picture. I LOVE arranging pictures, paper, journaling and whatever I want to put on the page to make the picture special.

It's all about the story! Capturing photos that help me remember the little things that are so important...and are otherwise forgotten in the rush of day to day.

Such a sweet photo of your girls, Danielle! It's so true how time goes by too fast. I look back at my photos and can't believe how much we've all changed. I can't imagine scrapbooking without pictures! It helps to bring back so many wonderful memories!! ♥♥ Kay

What a precious picture! I too love photography and scrapbooking allows me to document the memories as well as capture and enhance the picture(s). Capturing the memories/moments is more for my daughter than for me... I want her to have something to look at and know she was/is incredibly loved.
Thanks for the chance, btw. Have a great weekend!

I love that I can freeze a moment in time with a photo, and then use scrapbooking to make sure that moment isn't forgotten!

When I make a layout with photos of a past time, my senses are always triggered by the memories - and I find myself searching for the perfect embellishment, color, or words to capture that memory. thanks for the chance to win.

Pictures and scrapbooking go hand in hand not just for memories but to develop future relationships with other generations. I love to find out about my ancestors and hope that I can answer the questions for my future great-great grandchildren's questions about me (and getting to know me)thru the scrapbooks.

The bonds that scrapboking can bring in relationships are priceless and it all starts with a picture.

I would love to win a spot as I sometimes feel that I don't love my pages or my pictures & it can stop me from scrapping. I love that I will be leaving something for my girls to remember, the good and the bad, the little & the big.

Thanks for sharing on your blog all your amazing inspiration, I come here often.

once you become a scrapbooker there is no doubt that pictures and scrapbooking go hand in hand--i cannot imagine just putting my pictures in an album without scrapbooking them first!! they all have such a story to tell!! So priceless!!

Sounds like a fun class. I've been working on my photography lately and learned so much. Now I need to get back to scrapping all those wonderful photos!

What an adorable photo! Your description of your youngest daughter sounds just like mine, although I think mine is a little more chunky! :-)

I know that pictures and scrapbooking go hand in hand because I have only begun to realise the importance of taking precious photos since I started scrapbooking. Moments are all too fleeting so by scrapbooking our favourite photos, we can remember all the wonderful moments that we have experienced while also providing a glimpse into the history of our photos for those who view our albums. I love the photo you have shared here and your heartfelt words!

Once upon a time I used to plan my pages around what photos I had on hand. Now I plan what pages I want to make and then go out and take some photos!

Ever since I was a little girl, I've loved taking pictures. I've also always loved to talk and tell stories. I just wish it hadn't taken me so many years to find scrapbooking, but now that I'm here, I love it!

A box of old family photos came to light when my parents moved and no one can even remember who the people are in the pictures. I don't want my children and grandchildren to have the same experience. So I scrapbook to make sure the stories go with the pictures. guiderdi

I have loved taking photos since I was a young, my parents even bought my a little Kodak when I was about 8, I would write little captions under all my photos, when I put them in an album ( those sticky ones) I have always been facinated with old family photos and who the people were in them. Then a good friend introduced me to scrapbooking, and my passion for photo taking and documenting my family's life came together in one amazing hobby. Now my children and even their children will be able to know what their family members looked liked and something interesting about them...

Wendy said...

I scrapbook to remember...i dont have many pictures of me as a little girl..my mum doesnt remember much...having 4 children will do that!
I dont want that for my son, so i do it too remember.

I have a really bad memory, and I'm afraid that I'll forget those events, as well as the mundane.. Also, who doesn't love playing with paper and scissors?!

Such a cute photo! Class sounds great, thanks for the chance to win a place :)

For me photographs help me tell my stories through scrapbooking. I love looking at old photos & recalling happy memories.

That is why I scrapbook too....I never want to forget and now I have one married and love looking at my old albums from she was little.

Would love a chance to win and have been wanting to take one of her classes very much!

Cris Cunningham said...

Danielle, I'm not writing this to win a spot in the class- I just wanted to say that this post moved me to tears and gave me a swift kick in the "you-know-what". I've been so lax with my picture taking lately. This is exactly what I needed to hear to get out of my lazy stupor. Thank you! Hope you're feeling better.

Karen said...

I do scrapbooking to let my children or grandson know the little things they do/did that mean so much to me. They remember the big things like a trip to Disney or the wedding but I love the way they call their favorite shop 'leary leary instead of Early Learning or when I asked for peace and quiet, they thought I wanted peas and carrots !!

For me what's important is capturing those little quirks and idiosyncracies that are unique to my kids. Of course there are the usual things to remember, like first teeth and first days of school but then there are the other little things - like how my DD used to love to hide in the corner behind the sofa with her books, or how my DS has to tell his knitted monkey what he did today every night before bed. Those are the memories I want to treasure.

I've always loved paper and pictures, so scrapbooking for me is the perfect way of telling our stories!

Kelley said...

What are photos with out the scrapbooking? Pictures future descendents will ask, "Who are those funny looking people? And what are they doing!?" Scrapbooking lets you tell the story those original 1000 words left out.

Just love Shimelle's classes!!!!

I've never 'staged' a photo for scrapbooking, but I have hundreds of photos that I wouldn't have took if it wasn't for scrapbooking. Knowing I want to scrapbook memories has trained me to take my camera everywhere; and there would have been so many missed opportunities if I hadn't of realised this.

Susan said...

I love the way some photos instantly transport me back to the time they were taken.

Pam said...

I take pictures in a whole different way thanks to scrapbooking. I try to photograph the whole experience...the people, places, food, things we buy, things we see. My goal is to capture the sights and sounds of what I am scrapbooking.

Thanks for giving away a spot in this FAB class. I would love to fill it!

Unknown said...

Daft as it sounds pictures and scrapbooking have only just started to go together for me - I have always been a journaller but had not put my photos with it until recently.

Now I need to get better at taking those storytelling photos and I will work on a set of layouts called the photos I dont have!

Thanks for the inspiration and the chance to win

I love to think of a story and then go find pictures to go with it.

I take completely different photos since I started scrapbooking and am always on the lookout for a picture opportunity that could become a scrapbook page. My girls even dress in co-ordinating colours when they are going out together because they know it will make it easier for me to do a scrapbook page!

Mel said...

For me, I love being able to tell the stories, and love especially being able to give the "history" of the family. I really love working with heritage items, and how you can incorporate stories and background with those, even when you don't know much about them. I just love the whole preserving the story part of scrapbooking

Unknown said...

All the pretty paper drew me in years ago, but recently it's been about keep events straight for me. My memory isn't as sharp as it used to be and I don't want to forget the places we been, how the kids liked them and what they said.

Carole said...

For me it is about the fun times remembering the changes - the short hair and the long hair, the not liking polka dots to loving them, the puppy stage of our dogs to the now grown old dogs, the old neighbors and now the new neighbors .....the changes that are memories. The fun of looking at an older album and now one today....

Heidi G said...

I can still here my kids complaining about me taking too many pictures when they were growing up. I hadn't found scrapbooking at that time in my life. When I found scrapbooking I realized why I had been obsessed about taking so many pictures. Once the pages began to take shape, even my boys saw how great it was to have all those memories recorded for them to look at any time they want to.

I love taking photos, then creating a fun scrapbook page. The photos of just everyday stuff is really special because you know, you don't remember those as much as the vacations and Christmases.

First the pictures then the page.

Love that picture of your kids, for me it's the photo's and the journalling that go hand in hand.

The pictures help reinforce the memories I'm trying to preserve. I know with my childhood memories, the ones I recall the most have pictures to back them up.

I used to take taking photos for granted...took a pic, looked at it once and then forgotten about it. Then I took up scrapbooking...all of a sudden I realised how important photos were to me, how satisfying it was to have the ability to capture a special moment in a photo and then to be able to scrap it in a layout to tell the complete story!! Now Im never without my camera and a scribble book, and I'm much more adventurous taking my photos!

Great Blog!!

I've always loved photography, but scrapbooking has helped me learn to take photographs that help tell the story of the event or everyday stuff that I am scrapbooking

I sooooooooooooo need this. I am still a collector of scrapbook items. Being a perfectionist keeps me from doing much because if it can't look as good as everyone else's I won't do it.
I tried making a round card last year using yours as my guide with my sunday school class of 4th graders. Mine looked like they had made it. (LOL)
Thanks for the chance.
