Personalized Coin Purses and Possibilities...

Have we got a surprise for you today! Papertrey Ink has a new die set coming this month that is full of amazing potential to help you create coin purses, gift card holders and so much more. Just wait until you see what everyone on the team has made! They are all so different, yet soooooo wonderful!

Ok, here goes. Modern meets vintage. "Fresh Vintage" is what I like to call it!

These coin purses are easy to make with felt, oil cloth or any other material that won't unravel on the edges, since you'll be hand stitching along the edge and not tucking the ends under like you normally would when sewing something like this. BUT...having said that...the quilter in me just couldn't help trying to make these in some fun fabrics!! I went to Hobby Lobby and came home with 5 fabrics I loved. Picking out fabrics is so much fun! You only need a tiny scrap of each, so don't go all out and buy 1/2 a yard of each like I did. Totally not necessary! You only need a 5x7" piece of material (or a mix of materials that will make a 5x7" piece) for the smaller ones or two 5x7" pieces for the larger ones. Erin Lincoln will have a video for you to watch on how to create these!

The first coin purse I made was the one in the back with the teal zipper. I wanted it to be extra large, so I die cut 2 of the 5x7" pieces and put them back-to-back.

When die cutting thin fabric of this type, you first have to iron it onto a stabilizer to be able to cut it with the Cuttlebug. After ironing, I left the paper backing from the stabilizer ON the fabric and die cut the large 5x7" die and the zipper opening. Next, I simply placed the zipper behind the zipper opening and hand stitched the holes around the zipper. Seriously! I've never done a zipper before, but I can bet this is the easiest way ever to put in a zipper. LOVE it! Pin it to hold it in place while you are hand stitching it in. (The polkadot fabric was ironed on with Heat-n-Bond over the top of the other fabric.)

Below is the zipper all stitched in. Then I simply added the coordinating back piece on and hand-stitched around the holes on the outer edges. Easy peasy!

To finish, I added a back piece the same size, 5x7", which is also ironed onto stabilizer before die cut. Stitch around the outer edges and you are all done.

Next is the pencil case size.

To make the pencil case shape, I stitched some fabrics together to create the 5x7" piece.

I ironed it flat and then ironed it onto a fabric stabilizer before die cutting. (The strips are cut about 2" wide each and are sewn together by putting the right sides of the fabric together and machine stitching in about 1/4". You'll end up with five 1 1/2" wide strips when they are sewn together.)  After you run it through the die cutter, you'll hand sew the zipper to one side at the top using the holes as your guideline. Then unzip the zipper, fold the bag in the half the long way and sew the other side of the zipper on to the other side of the top. Then stitch up the sides of the bag tucking the ends of the zipper in. (I apologize, this pic was taken before I ironed the materials. You'll want to iron them before you do the stabilizer and die cutting, so they are nice and flat!)

Last, I added a little piece of felt with a key ring to the right side of the pencil case before hand stitching the right side closed.

The last one, the smaller felt one, was actually the easiest and fastest to create. It's a gift card holder. Instead of adding a zipper behind the open space, I kept it open for a gift card to slide in. (Pretend the polka dot fabric is a pretty gift card. Ha.)

To make this, I die cut the 5x7" piece of Fresh Snow felt with the Coin Purse die. Then folded it in half the short way and die cut the hole out where the zipper might go. But instead of using a zipper, I left it open for a gift card to slide in! Hand stitch around the zipper opening first, then hand stitch the front and back together on the sides and bottom.

To hold the little flap down at the top, I added a stick pin and tucked the sharp end down under the felt. I used the Seasonal Stitches: Birds dies to create leaves from felt (it's actually a bird wing, but I think it works nice as a leaf too). Then I rolled up a piece of fabric and hot glued it on as a flower.

The tag is cut with Tremendous Tags and stamped with Birthday Classics: April. And that's it! Hope you've enjoyed these!

Gift card necklaces...

All this week, Pink Paislee and Epiphany Crafts are blog hoppin' together! Did you know that you can win a prize pack from each company? Visit both of their blogs each day this week for more chances to win! Here is a sneak of the project I made for my assignment.

I loved the heart charms sent to me by Epiphany Crafts, so I made little necklaces and gift cards to attach them to.

A peek at my second one. I love the mix of the Secret Crush line with the Cottage Farms line. It never occurred to me before to try mixing those two lines!

Stop over to the Pink Paislee blog to read more and see a tutorial on how to make these. They're fun, quick and very easy. While you are hopping, visit Epiphany Crafts as well!

gift card wrap...

I'm back with a quick card that was on the Lily Bee blog today. Pocket cards are my favorite, especially during the holidays - tuck in a gift card, holiday photo, candy canes, shredded paper... whatever your heart desires to make it fabulous for the recipient!

First, I cut two Mega Mat Stack 4 pieces from Lily Bee's Christmas Cheer paper. I just run the die over my paper in my Cuttlebug machine to cut the front and back pieces. Next they were adhered on all sides to create the pocket, leaving the top open.

A Christmas Cheer journaling card was used on the front - it's hard to see in my photos, but it's a tan polka dot card with a blue snowflake on it. I simply added twine, a punched heart, a floral pin and felt photo corners. A Chrismtas Cheer stamp was added for the sentiment.

Voila! Hang it on your tree if you'd like until Christmas- makes a cute ornament as well. Stop over to the Lily Bee blog to see more holiday card ideas.

Garden Variety continues.

Today we are back with another blog hop for Papertrey Ink. This time we're introducing two new stamp sets called Garden Variety II and Year of Flowers Titles. Our assignment was to find a photo online, in a garden center, or something in our homes that inspired us. I found this patterned paper by Crate Paper in my scrapbooking stash that really inspired me. I love, love the mix of colors, and the floral pattern is perfect inspiration for these stamps!
I sat down and made two cards with these sets inspired by this one piece of paper! The first one is a card made with Aqua Mist cardstock, stamped with the "roses" saying from Year of Flowers Titles, a sentiment from Garden Variety II, the rose stamp from Year of Flowers and the Turning a New Leaf die. I used a frame from the new Limitless Layers 3.5" Oval dies.

The second project is a gift card holder. I tucked a seed packet pocket into the Card Base-ics #2 die.
First I'll show you how I made these painted flowers.
I stamped the rose from the Year of Flowers stamp set in Fresh Snow ink onto a piece of vellum. Then I embossed it with white embossing powder. I took my plastic paint palette out and put one drop of ink from the Pure Poppy refill, Raspberry Fizz and Spring Moss reinkers into the palette. I started painting in the center with Pure Poppy, then painted the outer petals with Raspberry Fizz.
My paint palette still has a lot of paint on it from previous projects, but here you can see I only needed a tiny drop of ink from the bottle.
Now I used the Spring Moss reinker to paint in the leaves. You can add water if you want a lighter color, or just use it straight from the bottle for a deeper color. (Excuse the messy paint palette! I'm very bad about keeping it clean.)
When dry, I cut it out and placed it on my card. You can back the flower with white cardstock if you wish like I did here and popped it up with dimensional adhesive. White cardstock behind the vellum really makes the colors pop.

On the second project, I cut the gift card holder from the Seed Packet die with white cardstock. I used the new Seed Packet Frame 2 on the gray patterned paper and stamped the front with the Garden Variety 2 frame with Smokey Shadow ink. I added one of these painted flowers over the top.

I put a gift card inside. (A gift card to a garden center would be perfect!) Then I closed the top and tucked it into this larger die called Card Base-ics #2. The little seed packet is cute, but on the small side, so adding it to this more substantial base makes it a little larger.

What a fun (and pretty) way to give a gift card!

Door To Door...

Welcome to the Papertrey Ink group blog post featuring a new stamp set and dies called Door to Door! This set is so much fun to play around with. Included are stamps for all kinds of occasions and dies to add neat accessories- like banners, urns, wreaths, pumpkins, flowers, ETC!

I used the set for Christmas and create an interactive holiday gift card, complete with bow for hanging on the tree. I love to hang my gift cards on the tree, so they don't get lost under the tree with all of the presents.

There is a little die that lets you create these open doors to create an interactive piece to your card!
When the doors open, the inside is decorated with the stamp set, and I wrote a to/from inside for the recipient.

I'll show you a little bit about how I created this!
The first thing I did was cut the doors out with the door die on white cardstock. Then stamped the doors, roof and urns.

Next, I stamped the greenery and chalked in parts of the card with brown chalk. I colored the little dots on the greenery with a red marker.

I cut out the banner die, stamped the banner and colored it in, then stamped the saying and added it to my door.
I had to cut the banner in the center where the doors open. Or you could put the banner up higher, like I did here on my sample. Oops, I see that I stamped my doors upside down. :)
I trimmed this piece down and placed it on a folded piece of new Holiday Flourishes & Swirls patterned  paper pad by Heather Nichols. I sewed up the sides and distressed the edges. Added a ribbon for hanging. To do this, tie a bow, leave one long end to wrap around to the back. Adhere. This creates the loop to hang your card on the tree.

Last, I added pearls for the door knobs and Diamond Dust glitter for a frosty, wintery feel. I punched out a little notch at the top with a circle punch. Don't forget to stamp the wreath inside the doors and add a to/from.
Now add a gift card inside the pocket and hang it on your tree!
