dress up your journaling...

Are you looking for a creative way to dress up the journaling on your scrapbook pages or highlight a sentiment on a card? Let's create journaling lines with chipboard and/or stickers! I've made 2 card samples to show you a fun technique...

On the first card, I grabbed some of my favorite little chipboard pieces from the Neighborhood line by Crate Paper, along with some of the line's stickers. I placed the chipboard very lightly on an Emma's Shoppe journaling card (also by Crate Paper) where I thought I might like them to be placed. You can also keep the paper on the back of the stickers, so they don't stick just yet.

Next, I lightly traced with a pencil where my chipboard lines where going to be (the tops of the chipboard). I made them a little bit darker here to show you better how I did it, but you would make them lighter, so they wouldn't show as well. Now, we're going to stitch over the lines.

With a sewing machine, I stitched back and forth. I used white thread on the top bobbin and yellow thread on the bottom bobbin. (Mostly because I was too lazy to change the yellow back to white from my last project!) I wanted to add just one more fun detail to the journaling lines with the stitches. I really love adding the "handmade" feel these days to my work, which I think the stitching really does add.

I trimmed the ends of the long threads a bit and placed the chipboard back on. With some sentiment stamps from my stash by Papertrey Ink, I stamped a word on each line. This is the Fruit Fusion: Berry stamp set from their May collection.

I finished the card by adding this piece to a card base made of Neighborhood paper and added a strip of Neighborhood ribbon to the inside edge.

And here is the second card I made. I used a heart sticker strip to "ground" my sentiment on this card as well and Papertrey Ink stamps for the sentiments called Birthday Basics. The tag tucked inside the top was hand cut from the Neighborhood - Garden paper.

I just love how all of the lines mix together so well, with an eclectic feel, and still so pretty together. I used a brad from the Portrait line on this card and an Emma's Shoppe date sticker...

for mom...

Today we took my mother-in-law out for lunch to Olive Garden for Mother's Day, since we didn't go anywhere last weekend - my girls were both sick with fevers and stomach bugs. We decided to wait a week and see how everyone was feeling. It is pouring rain today, but that didn't stop us! :) I just wanted to show you the card I made for her to pop in with her gift. I went a little crazy with the butterflies and stitching!

She loves purple and blue, so I pulled out some older paper that I found with those colors and punched a bunch of Martha Stewart butterflies. I stitched them on, just because after adhering them they looked a little bare and boring to me. I also added a bit of paint with an old toothbrush, you just load up the brush, bend the bristles back with your thumb and let the paint fly.

I made a little tag with the Tiny Tags die and stamp set by Papertrey Ink, and stamped "mom" from the set as well. I know the big flutter of butterflies is not a new concept, but I love how it looks on a card and it was so easy! The other day, I learned a new word from my brilliant friend Jill (scrappy brilliant and just plain brilliant! check out her blog!)....she called me a scrappy lepidopterist. I wasn't sure if she was swearing at me, or giving me a compliment. LOL! I love butterflies, don't think I'll ever get sick of them. :) Have a sweet day,

Here are more creations that I made this month for Papertrey Ink! I think I made 16 projects all together this month for PTI! :) On the first card, I used the new set called Wildflower Garden and masked off an oval shape for the top of the tree, then stamped inside with the sentiment It Takes a Long Time to Grow Old Friends.

I added some machine stitching to make the tree top more pronounced and some little photo corners to appear as if the tree has "limbs".

A wedding card here made with the Portrait line...

I stamped the scalloped circle with the Tag-its #4 set and then added a chipboard circle over the top, fit so nicely into the stamped circle.

Last, a cute baby card with Dawn McVey's new Whale Wishes stamps and die!

The scalloped sticker reminded me of waves and I chose a beachy color scheme to go with it, using Crate Paper's Emma's Shoppe paper and stickers.
