release day...

Papertrey Ink, my very favorite stamping company, has a ton of new products available this month tonight at 10pm EST. Here are a few more things I made with them. See the previous two posts for more! This card was made with It's a Banner Day and Cupid's Arrow stamp sets.

I stamped the floral background with a stamp from It's a Banner Day in Harvest Gold and added the arrow stamps over the top from Cupid's arrow, then a few stickers and paper at the top by Crate Paper. The black heart is stamped with Happy Hearts. The sentiment is from It's a Banner Day also.

When I'm With You card:
STAMPS: It's a Banner Day, Cupid's Arrow, Happy Hearts
INK: Harvest Gold and True Black by PTI, Soft Granite by Hero Arts
PAPER: Rustic White
DIES: none
OTHER: Paper and stickers by Crate Paper- Maggie Holmes line and Bunded Up, seam binding, chipboard stars by Studio Calico.
______

This is Heart Squared stamps and Wonderful Words: Love stamps and die. Also added the big hearts, which are cut with Cover Plate: Hearts die.

The center one is stamped with the Happy Hearts stamps. The heart square stamp was inked with Harvest Gold on the bottom, then Sweet Blush in the center and Raspberry Fizz at the top, then I stamped it onto the card...love the ombre effect. I cut white cardstock hearts and vellum hearts and layered them, then stitched them with my machine and folded the vellum up to stand up off the card. Gives it an airy feel.

With Love card:
STAMPS: Heart Squared, Wonderful Words: Love, Happy Hearts
INK: Raspberry Fizz, Sweet Blush, Harvest Gold
PAPER: white
DIES: Cover Plate: Hearts die, Wonderful Words: Love die
OTHER: enamel dot, patterned paper by Crate Paper.

This is Boutique Borders: Valentine stamps and dies.
Added the One Liners die (love) over the Boutique Borders: Frame. The love is actually more of a teal color, not sure why it turned out so green in this photo!

Love is in the details...

Papertrey Ink has a few new dies coming out on the 15th that we are previewing today! Let's get started, shall we?

First up, I made a little "Love to Read" Book Pillow for my daughter Kati's bed. She loves reading, so I thought this would be a great gift for her for Valentine's Day...a new Junie B. Jones chapter book, complete with coordinating bookmark.
Those of you who don't have little girls...WAIT, don't tune this post out just yet! All you need to do is change the fabrics out for a boy's bed or use more elegant fabrics for a Book Pillow for your mother, friend, teacher or coworker.

To create the pillow, I used two 8.5 x 11" pink felt pieces and one polka dot felt piece cut in half the long way. Sandwich them together with the polka dot one in the middle. Machine stitch around 3 sides, leaving the top open for stuffing the pillow. Turn it inside out. (Which will actually be right side out.) Stuff with quilt batting. Fold the top edges down and hot glue or stitch them shut. To dress up the pillow front, I die cut a One Liners die and hot glued it onto the pillow. I used hot glue for everything on the font, to attach the pom pom trim, hearts, gem, etc.

Here's the pillow without the book:
The heart is a new die called Limitless Layers: Heart Stitches, which I also used it to make a bookmark with seam binding for the tail. The little flower is made with seam binding also using hot glue and just folding it over, gluing and working my around the flower. I used some of the pom pom trim balls in the center.

The tag is cut with the new Tag Sale #9 die and stamped with the new The Best Is Yet To Be and The Best Is Yet To Be Sentiments stamps and adhered to a glassine bag. I thought the "fairytale" sentiment would go great with the book idea!

Love to Read Book Pillow:
STAMPS: The Best Is Yet To Be, The Best Is Yet To Be Sentiments

INK: Aqua Mist, Sweet Blush, True Black
PAPER: white
DIES: Limitless Layers: Heart Stitches, One Liners, Tag Sale #9
OTHER: felt by Creative Cafe, twine by The Twinery, pom pom trim by Melissa Frances, glassine bag from Michael's, seam binding.

This wedding card uses the Limitless Layers: Heart Stitches dies again on the big heart. I used a new stamp set in the background called Solid Stitches and Swirls with Sweet Blush ink. Then I used an older set that coordinates with it over the top (the stitched look) from Stitches and Swirls in Melon Berry ink. Love the pink and melon color combo!
A friend gave me the wide ribbon yesterday when we got together for a little crafty exchange! Over the top of the big heart die, I used a sticker from Crate Paper from their Close Knit Adhesive Layered Embellishments.

And here's a coordinating gift tag with the Tag Sale #9 dies. The little label die is called Stitched Pinked Edge Label. I stamped more of the leaves from the card above and trimmed them out.
Best Wishes card:
STAMPS: Stitches and Swirls, Solid Stitches and Swirls

INK: Sweet Blush, True Black, Melon Berry
PAPER: white
DIES: Limitless Layers: Heart Stitches, Tag Sale #9
OTHER: vellum, white enamel dots, layered sticker by Crate Paper's Close Knit line, ribbon by Ribbon Carousel.

Congratulations Tag:
STAMPS: Stitches and Swirls, Solid Stitches and Swirls

INK: Sweet Blush, True Black, Melon Berry
PAPER: Crate Paper
DIES: Tag Sale #9
OTHER: Maggie Holmes floral embellishment, Crate Paper sticker.

Last is an anniversary card. The arrow is from the new Valentine Stitches dies.

In the background again, I used the Stitches and Swirls and Solid Stitches and Swirls stamp sets in green and gold...something different, but I like it! The wooden veneer is by Amy Tan. Was going to paint it white, but decided to leave it plain so it shows up a little better against the white backgound. The chipboard is thick, but I stitched right over it with my sewing machine and it worked!!
Best Thing in Life card:
STAMPS: Stitches and Swirls, Solid Stitches and Swirls, Inside and Out: Love

INK: True Black, Spring Moss, New Leaf, gold by Tsukineko
PAPER: white, Classic Kraft
DIES: Valentine Stitches
OTHER:  wood veneer by Amy Tan, gold flower by Maggie Holmes/Crate Paper, enamel dots, lace.

I'll be back tomorrow with a few more :)

Stitches & Swirls...

Hello, the Papertrey Ink girls are showcasing a new stamp set today called Stitches & Swirls!

As a quilter, I was inspired by this set to "stamp and stitch", so I chose a few of the images, stamped them with Pure Poppy ink and stitched away with red thread. This stamp set reminded me of Redwork! Have you heard of Redwork?
Redwork is an older form of embroidery which uses red floss to trace simple line drawings. Muslin squares were sold with the patterns marked for a penny each. These then could be used as quilt blocks with sashing added around the borders. Redwork was also used to embellish tea towels, aprons, pillow covers, splashers and other Victorian decorations, and were usually done in animal themes, children's themes, nature and kitchen themes.

First, I stamped the image on white cardstock. My needle is threaded with 2 stands of red thread and tied in a knot at the end. I didn't poke a hole at EVERY stitch on the stamped image, because the stitches are super small and it would have taken me forever to do all of those. So I poked a hole about every other stitch. When doing sharp turns, you'll have to poke holes more often and make the stitches smaller. Here is a shot in progress:

Now I'll admit, this technique is time consuming! But something you can do while watching TV or listening to music! Wouldn't a set of these cards be a nice gift? You could also do this on fabric and frame it, or make these into a pillow or quilt. The possibilities are really endless!

When I run out of thread, I tape the end to the back and start with another piece of floss right where I left off. You'll end up with messy threads inside like this. I just cut another piece of white cardstock and adhered it to the inside cover to hide the stitching...

I was afraid to stamp a sentiment DIRECTLY onto my card - after all that time I spent stitching! I didn't want to mess up with the stamping and have to start completely over. So I stamped some sentiments from a new set called Willow onto a strip of white cardstock and attached it to my card.
I love Redwork...I actually bought 2 pillows for my daughter's bed a long time ago that have Redwork on them!
Stitched card set:
Stamps: Stitches & Swirls, Willow
Ink: Pure Poppy, Smokey Shadow
Paper: white cardstock
Dies: none
Other: red thread, Melissa Frances pearls.

If you'd like to try this technique in a smaller scale, pick a smaller floral image from the set like I did here and give it a whirl...
This is stamped onto a deep purple cardstock and stitched with white floss. I left the center flower not stitched, I only stitched the inside of the flower petals and the leaves.

Good Heavens card:
Stamps: Stitches & Glory Be
Ink: Fresh Snow, True Black
Paper: Nantucket by Pink Paislee, purple cardstock by PTI
Dies: Pinking Shears Border Die
Other: ribbon by Papertrey Ink, chipboard by Studio Calico, pin by LYB,
lace unknown, resin flower unknown, Melissa Frances pearl.

Thank you for visiting me today! Stitches & Swirls will be available on the 15th at Papertrey Ink. Please visit the other girls to see what they've made with this stamp set also!
